Homeless Dance Co. is a by-product of the Little Asia Dance Exchange Network Tour of 2004. Identifying the need for development and maintenance of international relationships in dance, the idea of Homeless Dance Company was conceived : a regular meeting of the LADEN 04 participants over the next 10 years in their respective countries and beyond.
We are Chan Yu-chun [Taiwan], Anna Cheng [Hong Kong], Natalie Cursio [Australia], Motoko Ikeda [Japan], Jung Young doo [Korea] and Daniel Yeung [Hong Kong]. This year visual artist Elizabeth Boyce will join the team to develop design ideas for AUSTRAL-ASIAN-DUAL-INVASION.
Homeless is a ‘nomadic company’, seeking to present dance events, collaborations and performances globally, while including local artists and creating new networks in dance and the broader arts. In each country we gather other artists to the projects, creating a ‘snowball effect’ and effectively expanding company membership and developing new relations.
In April 2007, the team will meet in Melbourne to work on creative development of AUSTRAL-ASIAN-DUAL-INVASION at the Meat Market [supported by Culture Lab and Arts Victoria]. The team will then travel to Hong Kong to continue development and perform at The Cultural Activities Hall, Ngau Chi Wan Civic Centre, supported by Hong Kong’s Leisure and Services Department and the Asian Cultural Council. From there we head to Taipei to continue development and perform at the Experimental Theatre of the National Chiang Kai-shek Cultural Centre.
Homeless Dance Co. gratefully acknowledges the producers of the Little Asia Dance Exchange as without them we would never have met. They are : Dance Forum Taipei, Hong Kong Arts Centre, Esplanade Theatres on the Bay Singapore, ANcreative Tokyo, Hirano Productions Melbourne, and SIDance Korea.
